Season for Peace and Nonviolence
at Guidance Church starts on
Monday, January 30th!

This year we are celebrating our third annual Season! The initiative begins on January 30th with the memorial of Mahatma Mohandas K. Gandhi.  As the 64 days continue, the  legacy of Cesar Chavez is acknowledged on March 31st by a California holiday named in his honor.  The Season concludes on April 4th, the memorial of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  During this entire time, Guidance will honor these visionaries and focus on the desire for an empowered and nonviolent world.

On each of the 64 days, I encourage you to participate in the spiritual practice of reflecting on the ident stified quote throughout the day.  Please mark your calendar for the upcoming events listed and set the intention to celebrate this time together as a spiritual community.

I am indeed profoundly grateful that our church community continues to take an active role in the Season for Peace and Nonviolence and joins with the large contingency worldwide that annually celebrate this powerful season.  Our greater intention and vision is to create the space for Peace & Nonviolence as a way of life that we celebrate and champion all year round.

All love, light, peace, joy, justice & freedom be with you.

Rev. Nirvana Reginald Gayle
Minister and Spiritual Director

Week #1

January 30, 2012 (Mahatma Mohandas Gandhi’s Memorial Date)
"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."
~ Mahatma Mohandas K. Gandhi ~

January 31, 2012
"The need of my heart is for room for Peace.
Peace of mind that inspires singleness of purpose;
Peace of heart that quiets all fears and uproots all panic;
Peace of spirit that filters through all confusions
and robs them of their power.
These I seek now.
I know that here in this quietness, my life can be infused with Peace.
Therefore, before God, I seek the enlargement of my heart at this moment
that there may be room for Peace."
~ Howard Thurman.  For The Inward Journey.  ~

February 1, 2012
"Peace be still"
~ Mark 4:39 ~

February 2, 2012
“Nothing can bring you peace but yourself.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ~

February 3, 2011
“It is vanity to think that we know the ways of Divine Grace.
As long as we find ourselves in this station transgression,
we cannot understand the true meaning of peace.
It is not our definition of peace we seek, but God’s!
True peace is not a definition at all,
but an experience that transcends all definitions.
It is only when we release our definitions of what we think peace
is that the reality of peace is given to us.
And then we are asked to extend that gift, freely,
just as it was freely given us”
~ James F. Twyman.  Portrait of the Master~

February 4, 2012
“More than an end to war, we want an end to the beginning of all wars.”
~ Franklin D. Roosevelt ~

February 5, 2012
“Peace is present right here and now, in everything we do and see.
The question is whether or not we are in touch with it.”
~ Thich Nhat Hahn ~
